Working Through The Lists

A guide to CD collecting About a year ago I began collecting CDs, I'd been wanting to start doing something of the sorts for a while, with the most obvious choice being vinyl as they're back in fashion at the minute and are pretty awesome. Unfortunately, being a student with very little room and money, it was a bit unrealistic to be able to afford a decent record player, storage for the records and to be able to grow my collection at a decent rate. So I turned to CDs, and I honestly couldn't be happier. Currently I have just over 125 CDs in my collection, all neatly alphabetised and sorted which go very nicely in a cheap CD shelf which doesn't take up too much room and cost me far less money than they're worth according to Discogs. For anyone who wants to start a music collection or simply wants a physical reminder of the music and artists they love, I would highly reccomend CDs. But, like everything, there are a few tips and tricks that take a bit of working out ...

50 of the saddest songs of all time

50 of the saddest songs of all time I've been putting this one off for a while, simply because I've just been trying to be a bit more creative than listing sad songs, which realistically makes up the majority of my music library. But I've decided to just bite the bullet and do it, so here we are. There's a good mix in here as always, the majority are indie but I've chucked the odd rock, metal and pop song in there for the fun of it. Not every one of these is the most obviously devastating song (although there are plenty that are), but in their own way each one is truly heartbreaking. I've tried to stick to one song per artist but in a few places this just wasn't possible, but who cares? Just a quick content warning, there are mentions of mental health issues, suicide and drug use/ abuse, so just watch out in case you're sensitive to that. As always there's a playlist to go with the list, as well as my larger sad songs playlist linked. So in no partic...

The best name songs

The Best Name Songs Some of the best songs written are those about a specific emotion or person, as such many of the best written have a person's name in the title, this list is about those such songs. As always this is a fairly varied list in terms of genre, era and objective musical quality and it's in no particular order. 1. Jamie T - Sheila One of my all-time favourite songs, simply an incredible set of 3 tales on the backdrop of Jamie's hometown - London. A song including a sample of poet John Betjeman, stories about a girl drowning, a gangster and an overdose over a fantastic beat, tied together by a faux-jamaican dialect seems like an insane combination... and it is, but it works. 2. Eminem - Stan One of the darkest songs written and possibly one of the most masterful, the contrast between the increasingly sickening notes from Stan and Dido's beautiful refrain only works to highlight the insanity that the fan descends into. This track is one of Eminem's mos...
